Taiwan achieved a record trade surplus of USD 22.3 billion in August, propelled by robust exports related to artificial intelligence (AI) technologies. According to FX Street, strong demand for AI components significantly contributed to this milestone.
Electronics and semiconductor shipments also saw a notable surge, boosting overall export and import figures for the month. Economists from Commerzbank, led by Dr. Henry Hao, confirmed the pivotal role of AI-related exports in driving Taiwan’s trade surplus to this new high.
This strong performance in Taiwan’s tech sector is closely watched by Japanese investors, given the critical supply chain links between Taiwan’s semiconductor industry and Japan’s electronics market.
