US equity futures climbed during European trading hours on Friday, even as US stocks faced a steep decline amid worries over consumer spending and disappointing earnings. According to FX Street, Dow Jones futures gained 0.13% to trade above 52,900, while S&P 500 futures rose 0.18% to near 7,680. Nasdaq 100 futures saw the strongest advance, up 0.38%, trading above 29,400.
Deutsche Bank strategists pointed out that the sharp selloff affected major indexes including the S&P 500, Nasdaq, and the so-called Magnificent Seven tech stocks. Weak earnings from Walmart and slower US sales growth heightened concerns about the resilience of consumer demand in the current economic environment, FX Street reported.
For Japanese investors, these developments underscore the ongoing volatility in US equities, which can influence global market trends and risk sentiment, particularly in sectors linked to consumer spending and technology.
