Standard & Poor’s has affirmed Romania’s credit rating at BBB-/A-3 but maintained a negative outlook, according to FX Street. This decision provides the Romanian Leu with some short-term relief amid ongoing economic challenges.

Commerzbank highlighted that while the rating affirmation offers temporary stability, it does not eliminate the risk of a future downgrade. The bank also noted that fiscal consolidation efforts in Romania are progressing; however, persistent political paralysis and significant external imbalances continue to weigh on the country’s economic outlook.

For Japanese investors, Romania’s situation underscores the importance of monitoring credit ratings in emerging European markets, as shifts can impact currency and equity exposures in the region.
